Description

A tall evergreen tree, up to 40 meters high with a flat crown. It has a reddish brown, deeply fissured bark.

Characteristics

A strong, dry-balsamic turpentine like color.

Method of extraction

Steam Distillation.

General

Use widely for respiratory conditions including throat infections and rheumatic conditions. There are many species of pine which yield an essential oil from their heartwood as well as from their twigs and needles.

Blends well with

Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Cypress, Lavender, Marjoram, Peppermint, & Rosemary.

Indications

Mind & Spirit – Used as an inhalation as it is great for general debility and mental fatique. Pine oil is cleansing and invigorating and promotes the feeling of energy and well-being. Use in a vaporizer to clear a healing or meditation space.

Body – Highly antiseptic and expectorant makes it helpful for cases of asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis and influenza. Stimulating to the adrenals (tones Yang) and recommended for overcoming mental, physical and sexual fatigue, chills and poor appetite. Also effective in treating prostate and cystitis conditions. Stimulates circulation and warms thereby relieving rheumatism, gout, sciatica and arthritis. Use by compress when painful.

Skin & Hair – Not recommended.

Contraindications

Avoid in massage and baths where allergic skin conditions exist.
